PT Below the Belt:

Understanding the Musculoskeletal Implications of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED

Learning Objectives:

1.Describe the location, structure, and functions of the pelvic floor muscles.

2.Screen for pelvic floor muscle dysfunction via specific subjective interviewing

3. List at least 10 bladder, bowel, and reproductive conditions that can benefit from pelvic floor therapy.

4.Identify common pelvic floor referral patterns for musculoskeletal pain in the lower quadrant.

This continuing education course will cover pelvic floor anatomy, function, and dysfunction, with an emphasis on clinical reasoning and screening strategies for appropriate referral to pelvic floor therapy.

Because this work involves discussing the most intimate and important parts of daily life, which—for most people—is a difficult conversation to have, Dr. Q is passionate about utilizing her clinical and interpersonal skills to spread awareness, provide quality of care, and advocate for patients with pelvic floor dysfunction.

Dr. Quozette Valera (aka Dr. Q) is a licensed physical therapist practicing in her hometown of Long Beach. She works closely with patients as they navigate through pregnancy and postpartum recovery, and having witnessed how isolating and overwhelming this experience can be, she felt called to pursue further training as a childbirth educator and postpartum doula through the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA). Combining her clinical experience with her trainings in birthwork, she developed and created her own comprehensive childbirth & postpartum education class: Birth & Beyond by Q.

Zoom Link for the meeting will be emailed the day before the course upon confirmation of registration and payment.

Pending approval by CPTA for 0.2 CEUs on receipt of course evaluation.
